Ukai (oo-kaaee), our name, is inspired by the traditional method of river fishing practiced for some 1,300 years using Cormorant birds to catch sweetfish.
Spawned in 2006, Ukai has quickly become a favourite amongst sushi lovers in the London area, with its first outlet in trendy Portobello.
Ukai offers a culturally rich Japanese experience in a contemporary setting. Due to interest, many of its various Japanese inspired products including flower teas (which blossoms in front of your eyes), delicate incense and a variety of stylish tableware are now available to be purchased.
Ultimately, Ukai’s passion is sushi. With the simplest recipe; the freshest sustainable fish, the highest quality of ingredients and a trained and loving chef. All provided in a reasonable priced menu to eat in or take away.
